Feng Dance Theater
In reply to Confucius’s request to speak out his wishes, Zeng Dian said, “I would like to put on newly made spring gowns on a late-spring day, bathe in the Yi River while enjoying the breezes on Feng-hu-wu-yu Terrace* alongside 5 or 6 adults and 6 or 7 children, and then sing our way home.”
The Analects of Confucius: Xian Jin
* In the original Chinese version of the above passage, “Feng-hu-wu-yu” refers to “enjoying the breezes on Wuyu Terrace”, hence the name “Fengdance”.
What lies at the heart of the indefatigable self-exploration of creators, who spend a lifetime pursuing changes and new things, is the insistence on innovation and discovering original ideas. In order to achieve technological breakthroughs, scientists must assume a fearless experimental approach to research, combined with careful verifications and unceasing scrutiny. By the same token, in order to create artistic works in new styles, it definitely takes an originality-minded, daredevil artist with fastidious techniques to create new and amazing masterpieces, because, after all, unknown possibilities present themselves through the artist’s diversified emotional experiences.
The Feng Dance Theater has been exploring the possibilities of dance as an art form since its establishment in 2005, with each production executed in a cross-disciplinary manner. By assembling an elite group of artists from varying backgrounds, Fengdance presents joint projects on a platform where potentials and dreams are fulfilled.
